London Finance Academy Priorities
Aligned to the national strategy and programmes, the London Finance Academy has outlined the ambition of what it will aim to achieve over the next 5 years. These build upon the great work that is already underway and link to the NHS People Plan 2020/21 objectives, and set fresh, actionable commitments as to how we will consistently and collaboratively shape NHS finance and meet the demands of the future.

London Finance Academy

  1. The development of an apprenticeship programme across London fostering links with schools, colleges and universities to enable an ongoing source of trainees to the London system.
  2. A formal skills rotation programme for interested staff at a pre-qualified and post qualified level across London ensuring equitable access for all organisations. To enable development of talent but also to support retention and professional skills development.
  3. To develop a formal approach to supporting secondments across London to cover short to medium term vacancies. To enable a less formal approach to skills development and retention.
  4. A proactive pan-London approach to vacancy sharing and talent management.
  5. Developing a ‘one-stop shop’ website that signposts all training and development offers.
  6. Developing and sharing a best practice approach to producing a staff development strategy with recommendations for best practice implementation at ICS and organisation level, providing resources to support organisations to implement and continue to progress.
  7. Develop a systematic bespoke approach to mentoring, coaching, buddying and sponsorship for staff at all levels. This could be set as a standard of good practice for London.
  8. Developing a consistent approach to the definition of roles and grades, supporting organisations/ ICS with proactive rotation or secondment options and opportunities to promote professional standards to develop skills and support retention.
  9. Ensure staff development and training aligns to and uses a layered approach at London, ICS, and organisation level, working effectively with both the London Academy Board and Local ICS Talent Boards.
  10. Recreate an approach to formal monthly networking; knowledge sharing and business discussions taking into consideration a London wide approach and an ICS level approach.

The London Finance Academy is actively collaborating with delivery partners to set out the strategy, provide thought leadership and promote the curriculum for finance staff, agreeing ambitions and outcomes. SDN as a key delivery partner will calibrate its infrastructure, expertise, knowledge and resources on an ongoing basis to help facilitate the success of the One NHS Finance initiative working with the London Finance Academy, Future Focused Finance and the Finance Innovation Forum.
